On the 2nd of May, 2024, the partners of the ERASMUS+ THINK CirEco project “Promoting Circular Economy Thinking and Opportunities among NEETs and low-skills adults,” met online to discuss about Circular Economy.

In May 2024  The European Union and China will fortify their commitment to the circular economy, setting a collaborative course with a newly established roadmap. This agenda, birthed from the EU-China Memorandum of Understanding, lays out strategic actions focusing on the management of plastics, battery value chains, and the practice of remanufacturing.

European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, recognizes the magnitude of the challenge. The proactive partnership with China is envisaged as a leap towards fostering a more sustainable mode of production and consumption worldwide.

The workshop planned for May 2024, will address the transition to a circular economy for plastics within the EU and China.

For those looking to dive deeper into the circular economy and the skills it necessitates, the THINK CirEco project's website (www.thinkcireco.net) serves as a gateway to resources and learning. On the website you will be able to  download freely the  "EntreComp for the Circular Economy", (translated in English, Spanish, German, Italian and Greek), a valuable and accessible tool specifically tailored to develop entrepreneurial competencies steeped in the principles of the circular economy.

Circular economy: a concept adaptable to any industry, tourism included 😏

It is easier to see how the concepts of circular economy can affect the manufacturing sectors rather than the service sectors as, for instance, the tourism industry.

A link between circular economy and the tourism sector does exist. Think about what a tourist does when starting his consumption of tourism 👇

he prepares his trip, then he travels

When reaching his destination, he likely uses local transports, he settles in his chosen accommodation, consumes food and partakes in some local activities.

Finally, he travels back.

All seven steps are compatible with the circular economy 👍

Did you know that 🤔

Circularity represents a strategic approach for the tourism sector 🥳

Integrating circularity and further advancing resource efficiency in the tourism value chain represent an opportunity for the tourism sector to embrace a sustainable and resilient pathway.👍

For tourism destinations, the circular economy offers the opportunity to:

enhance the sustainable development impacts of tourism

generating wellbeing for the local population through the creation of new jobs and more inclusive local value chains

creating a virtuous circle between businesses and territories.
